AFSS memebers attended Governor Northam’s March 26, 2019 announcement of signing a “Hands Free” driving bill at Market Square in Alexandria.  AFSS members gladly accepted an invitation from Governor Northam’s office to attend the announcemnt ceremony.  We were pleased to join the Street Smart organization and lend our support for the hands free bill as we work to make Alexandria’s roads safe for everyone. Thank you Governor Northam!

THANK YOU to those of you who came out yesterday to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Pedestrian and Cyclist Traffic Victims. After our crowd of over 50 supporters marched on King Street, we gathered in Market Square and heard from various city officials and individuals personally impacted by preventable crashes. Read below for more details of the event. To help AFSS with our outreach, education and advocacy efforts please make a donation so we can continue this work and forward this email to 3 friends you think would be interested in learning more about our mission. Six AFSS volunteers helped students walk safely to school at Ferdinand T Day elementary school on the first day of school. We handed out hand fans to the children which encourages the “Project Wave” practice of Stop, Look, Wave at drivers before crossing intersections at Stop Signs. People from ACPS and TE&S Vision Zero also helped the students with Safe Streets practices. Thanks all
